Blog#1 Story of the hole

 Good evening! I'm Airi.

Have you ever listen to stories from others? When I was a child I heard a lot of  interesting stories from especially my mother and the teachers of nursery school. I'll introduce you one of the stories which I heard and I really interested in.

One day a man was walking down the street, then he found the hole in the street. He tried to know what it was and how big was, so he inserted the twig into it. But nothing happened, then next he threw a pebble into it to see the depth of the hole. He thought the sound of the pebble hitting of the bottom made him know the depth but it was just a waste of the time. Also he shouted "hello" at it, but nothing happened in the end.

So, he thought that hole was infinity. Gradually people was becoming to dump a lot of things that it changed from just the hole to the dumping hole. Peole throw trash, gervage and industrial waste into there. Nuclear fuel was also dumped there.
Few years later the man who found the hole first felt pain, because the pebble struck his head, and few minutes later he heard a voice saying "hello" in his voice.

Actually this story finished here. And I found the video of this story so check it out, but different from my story a little.

This story is kind of a lesson for us. What do you think of this story?

  1. Sounds like something you'd see in 世にも奇妙な物語. I wonder what happened to that show.

Well, humans won't stop indulging in hedonism just from a futuristic possibility of the unknown. If such hedonism inevitably causes the apocalypse, so be it; it's inevitable.

I'm taking this standpoint from your story, not the video. Note, the man had absolutely no means of knowing the result of dumping stuff in the hole. Moreover, the man is not at guilt for discovering the hole or spreading the word to others. Perhaps he thought he had done the world a favor by finding a perpetual hole for ridding of any and every waste. There is absolutely no moral value in this story.

I think the story tells us about human's folly and human should to notice about it...

  3. Hello! This is Saori!

I've heard this kind of story before. I agree with Asami's oninion that we must think about our global issue such as trash, economy, and so on... I wish a lot of people watch or hear this story!

  4. The story is also interesting to me. After reading it, I thought I had to reconsider my behavior. As Asami and Saori say, I also suppose the story leads to environmental problems.
I want to tell my family the story.

  5. Hi Airi, this is Ms. MacGregor. Please fix up your English:
    Have you ever listened to...
...especially from my mother and nursery school teachers.
    I'll introduce one .....
    ....then he found a hole
(use "a" for the first time you mention it, then "the" thereafter)
What is the lesson you think the story teaches us? I am interested in your opinion and interpretation. I think it shows what happens if people are careless. What about you?
BTW, I love the photo of the hole that you put on your blog - it looks really natural and pretty. I like those colors of green.
